A new edition of the SheBelieves Cup is approaching as the USWNT continues its preparation for the FIFA Women’s World Cup. This edition will see the participation of Canada, Colombia, and Argentina, with the fixtures to be played in Nashville, Columbus, and Harrison, NJ. The USWNT will be looking to continue its winning form. Their latest win against Italy puts them at 2 wins and 11 goals with no defeats.
Familiar faces
The USWNT and Canada will have the upper hand once again in the tournament as the NWSL hosts many of the key national team members from both nations. While no final rosters have been announced, you can expect names like goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan ( San Diego Wave), midfielder Jessie Flemings (Portland Thorns), and forward Jordyn Huitema (Seattle Reign). While my players to watch from the USWNT are Rose Lavelle (Gotham FC), Olivia Moultrie (Portland Thorns), and Jaedyn Shaw (Gotham FC). Only by name alone, the match-up for both squads features high-profile names to headline a top international friendly.

Colombia will return from a successful participation in last year’s edition and will feature some names that have arrived in the NWSL as well. Midfielder Leicy Santos (Washington Spirit), forward Valerin Noboa (Portland Thorns), and defender Ana Maria Guzman (Portland Thorns). The disadvantage for all participating teams? Most players will be in preseason form and will not be at their best when the tournament takes place in March.
Home Field advantage
Sports Illustrated Stadium will be hosting the final fixture for the NWSL on March 7. Home of Gotham FC, the home crowd will be able to see two of their best players with the national team. Both Shaw and Lavelle will likely feature in the game against Colombia. If you combine the fact that the USWNT consistently sells out venues wherever they play, the atmosphere will be electric when you factor in the NY/NJ soccer culture.
The fixture will also serve as a farewell match for local NJ legend Tobin Heath. All things considered, the new edition of the SheBekieves Cup will be one to look forward to once again.
